According to this scenario Barbara smith was the patient of substance abuse. She gets an job opportunity for local nursing home. At this point of time I cannot be personal about her. I have to genuinely understand the seriousness of substance abuse and provide the information as it is without customizing it to the needs of barabara.

Under HIPPA act Title I protects health insurance coverage for workers and their families in case they change/ lose their jobs. Similarly in case of barabara if anything among this would have occurred it would have got protection under this act.

Violation of this act may levy penalty on the person violating it.

Situation could have been handled differently in a way that barabara gets counselling session and is ensured that there is no substance abuse would would have been declared as physically and mentally fit to join any job. Certification of fitness is as well mandatory before joining a job.
