Ans:- Medications that a nurse should give to a 70 years old patient who suffer from cerebral edema are as follows:-

- Mannitol:- to reduce the intra cranial pressure,

- Diuretics (frusemide):- to decrease fluid volume,

- Corticosteroids ( dexamethasone):- to suppress immune system and to lower the intra cranial pressure in the vasogenic edema.

Nurse will maintain the position of patient - by elevating the head end if the bed 15- 30 degrees to promote cerebral venous drainage .

She will correct the contributing factors like:- hyperthermia, hypotension, acidosis, hypoxia, hypovolaemia etc.

She will carefully administered the fluids.

She will monitor blood pressure carefully as it is very important in case of cerebral edema.
