Genivieve is a 2 years old girl. She came to the ED with her mom for recurrent common cold symptoms. Her mom reports that she has difficulty breathing, cough, lethargy, and irritability. The nurse can hear expiratory wheezing while listening to her lungs sound and can see signs and symptoms of dehydration. Her mom states she hasn’t urinated all day and is refusing to eat or drink. Her skin looks pale. Her temperature is 104 degrees Fahrenheit, BP is 80/40mm of Hg, O2 saturation is 91% and pulse is 150 beats per minute.

She was born 6 weeks premature. She lives with her parents. Her mom is an occasional smoker. She goes to daycare regularly. Her day care just had three confirmed cases of RSV.

• Administer antipyretics as per order to relieve or reduce temperature

• Monitor intake and output to maintain fluid balance
