After tax cost of debts = Yield to maturity * (1 - tax rate)
= 12% * (1 - 0.40)
= 7.2%
Weighted cost of debt = 0.072 * 0.45 = 0.0324
WACC = 0.1370
Weighted cost of equity =WACC - Weighted cost of debt
= 0.1370 - 0.0324 = 0.1046

Cost of equity = Weighted cost of equity / weight
= 0.1046 / 0.55
= 0.19018 or 19.02%

Pearson's cost of common equity = 19.02%
