A 17-year-old female student begins to demonstrate signs of depression and irritability. She begins to spend more and more time alone in her room. She continually comes home later than she is supposed to. Several weeks later, her mother receives a phone call from the school when her daughter is found having convulsions on the restroom floor. The mother is instructed to go to the local hospital, where her daughter has been transported by ambulance. After several tests and verifying that the patient has had no history of epilepsy, the physician acknowledges that the girl has been using cocaine.

Answer: The substance abuse common among teenagers because they have curiosity to try new and different things. Some of the teenagers becomes addicted to the substance.

The common symptoms of an overdose of cocaine are:

  • Anxiety
  • paranoia
  • High temperature
  • Restlessness

The other drugs are abused by teenagers such as cocaine, heroine etc. The symptoms of the cocaine addiction are:

  • Dilated pupil
  • Loss of appetite
  • Wakefulness

The symptoms of heroine addiction are:

  • Nausea
  • shallow breathing
  • slurred speech.

Many of the behavioral therapy and spiritual programs are conducted in the states to prevent the addiction and it's side effects. The national rehabilitation centre for drug abuse provides major treatment to the teenagers.
