1. What is congenital hypothyroidism?

Inadequate thyroid hormones production in newborn.

2. Clinical manifestation:

Shunted growth

Short stature

Increase in head size

Dentition is delayed

Thick and broad tongue protrusion

Skin dry and scaly

3. Incidence:

Incidence about 1:3000 to 1: 4000

Its important to diagnosis because it may cause severe diseases like inborn error in metabolism, iodine deficiency, cretinism and mental retardation.

4. As per clinical situation,

Initially Andrea had Drowsiness, inactive this indicates the sign of hypothyroidism.

Where after the dose of 125mcg of levothyroxin she had sign of hyperthyroidism like, diarrhea, irritability, restlessness it indicated the sign of hyperthyroidism due to increased dose of levothyroxine.
