Barriers for effective providers and patient communication:

- effective communication is the central clinical function in building a therapeutic relationship between the health care provider as well as patient .

- effective communication is the heart and art of medicine .

- barriers :

  • There are so many barriers are there between the provider and patient .
  • language barrier : if the physician does'nt know the language of patient . It can lead to disatisfaction to the patient and physician cannot get the adequate information about the patient illness .
  • anxiety ,fear of physical abuse or voice abuse of patient .if patient having fear about the physical abuse he or she cannot go for the physical examination .this can lead to improper diagnosis or mis interpretations in treatment
  • Lack of communication skills of physician .it can lead to physician may not get information about patient disease condition .
  • miscommunication is a potential pitfall ,in terms of patient understanding of their prognosis ,purpose of care ,expectations and involvement of treatment.
  • Discouragement of patient with verbal abuse can lead to patient cannot open up his problems .ex :STI infections .
  • lack of sufficient explanation result in poor patient understanding .
  • lack of interest
  • Use of jargon
  • loss of attention about what the patient explaining about his problems
  • other barriers of communication :physical barriers ,psychological barriers ,emotional barriers,peceptual barriers ,cultural barriers ,gender barriers,interpersonal barriers ,language barrier,etc
