Review the roles and functions of a professional nurse found in Chapter 1 of your textbook (Table 1-2 - Nursing Roles in All Settings). Write a 2-3 page paper. Identify one strength you bring to each role and one area you need to develop.

profession : profession has been defined as an occupation that requires extensive education ,special knowledge ,skills and preparation .

- professionalism : it is a set of attributes ,a way of life that implies responsibility and commitment .

nurses assumes a number of roles when they provide care to clients .

some of the roles are:

  • Caregiver
  • communicator.
  • teacher.
  • client advocate.
  • counselor.
  • change agent.
  • leader .
  • manager
  • case manager.
  • research comsumer .
  • administrator .
  • educator.

- care giver : care giver role has the required nursing actions may involve full care for the completely dependent client ,partially dependent client ,supportive and educative care to assist the client in attaining their highest possible level of health and well ness.

- communicator : communication is a integration to all nursing roles ,nurse identify the health problem and then communicate these verbally .the quality of nurse xommunication is impoetant factor in nursing care .the nurse must be able to communicate clearly and accurately in order for the client health care need to be met .

- teacher: the nurse help the client to learn about their health and the health care produces they need to perform to restore or maintain their health.teach unlicenced assistive personnel to whom they delegate care.

- client advocate : in this role nurse may reptesent the client needs and wishes to other health professionals ,such as relaying the information to physician .they also assist client in exercising their rights and help them speak up for themselves.

counselor : it involves providing emotional ,intellectual psychological support .the nurse counsel primarly healthy individuals with normal adjustment difficulties and focuses on helping the person to develop new attitudes ,feeling,bahaviours by encouraging the client to look at alternative behaviors

change agent : assist the client to make modification in their own behaviour .nurses often act to make changes in system ,change in clinical care etc .

leader : as a leader influence other to work together to accomplish a specific goal . Effective leadership is a learned process requiring an understanding of needs ,goals that motivate the people .

manager : mmnurses manages the nursing care of the individuals ,families,communities .the nurse manager delegate the nursing activities to ancillary workers and other nurses ,supervisers,evaluate their performance .

Case manager : as a case manger ,nurse work with the other staff members to over see the care of the specific case load.case mangers help ensures that care is oriented to client ,while controlling the cost.

research consumer : nurse often use research for client care ,have some awareness of the process and language of research ,be sensitive to issues related to protecting rights of human subjects.participate in identification of health problems .

nurse administrator : nurse manages the client care ,including the delivery of nursing services ,here they have middle mangement posution such as head nurse or supervisor ,they participate in budgetting ,staffing and planning programes .

Nurse educator : they are responsuble for clinical teaching in the hospitals .

these are all the some roles and functions of nurses .
