1. If you were Vivian’s nurse; would you have provided care any differently than what she received? If so, what would've been different? If not, why were you satisfied with the nursing care she received? Explain.

2. One of nursing's most important role is that of patient advocacy. Were you satisfied with the advocacy role of the nurse who cared for Vivian (the patient)? Why or why not?

3. If one of your patients is diagnosed with a terminal illness and you know they have not received information about hospice or palliative care as treatment alternatives can you provide this information as a Registered Nurse?

4. As we know, patient's can refuse all or part of any treatment and might make decisions based on insufficient information. In your practice, is there a clear "chain of command"for you to address needs of the patient that you feel aren't being met?

1. Yes. I am satisfied with the nursing care of Susie. Vivian's is on stage 4 ovarian cancer, and the chemotherapy doesn't work for her. By applying her knowledge and skill, she provided the nursing care within her scope of practice. Vivian's needs more emotional and social support at this stage. The primary care nurse Susie is the only person who understands the Vivan's condition and her needs. She is an example of a good professional nurse.

2. Nurses play an important role in patient's advocacy. As per the code of ethics, the nurse is responsible for protecting the patient's right and to provide safety to the patient. Patient has the right to know about the health information, long-term treatment, and right to take her own decision. Nurse Susie cared Vivian's within this ethical consideration. Forcingly treating the patient without considering her wish is illegal.
