1) Amniocentesis is recommended when there is a chance of getting genetic disorders from parents to their offsprings or having family history of birth defects.

It is used to check if the child may have any genetic disorders and syndrome such as down syndrome,sickle cell anaemia,cystic lesions,Tay Sachs disease,muscular dystrophy etc.

2)Risks include.

Infection,fetal injury, fetal/maternal hemorrhage, miscarriage.

3)If a patient have a history of genetic defects in their family and to know the fetal wellbeing and to know whether there is infection or any defects.And if one have positive results from prenatal screening test.
