You have a heavy clinic schedule for the week ahead with some overbookings. However, the flu season is starting and even though your staff had their flu shots several weeks ago, at 7 a.m. on Monday morning before a REALLY full clinic day ahead, the following people call and tell you they are running a fever and feel pretty bad. What do you tell your clinic supervisor, who is a nurse? She intends to come in for part of the day, since her fever is down to 102. What do you tell the lab tech who keeps your CBC and UAs going, and a lot of Rapid Strep tests lately? What do you tell the medical assistant who also has a fever and is nauseated? Keep in mind that your other MA is off on maternity leave. What can you think of to help salvage the day???

Answer #1

I will tell the supervisor nurse that one of the colleague staff is not feeling well and has fever and she is on leave to take rest for half day .

Will inform the lab techs that in the ward only one staff is there today and day is already booked so kindly give the reports and render the services as soon as possible without any delay .

Will inform the medical assistant that the day is booked and there is only one staff as everyone is sick and advice him to take rest when the rush is less to prevent over exertion .

To help salvage the day ,I will request the incharge to post more staffs as the ward cannot be handled by a single staff and also effective care would not be able to administer . Staffs left there will also become sick if they over erect as they also have the symptoms of flu.
