Electronegativity is defined as the tendency of an atom in a molecule to attract the bond pair of electrons of the bond towards itself. Smaller is the atom, greater is its tendency to attract the electrons, Larger is the atom, smaller is it's tendency to attract the electrons.

In a group, from top to bottom, the size of the atoms increases due to the number of added subshells to the atom.

So the electronegativity decrease down the group.

Decrease The electronegativity of elements in a group of the peridocp table decrease from top to bottom.

In a period, from left to right, the size of elements decreases de to the added electron in the same subshell and increasing effective nuclear charge. Thus,

Increases The electronegativity of elements in a period of the periodic table increases from left to right.
