Question

2. You collected a set of data concerning the down time for a machine (in minutes). The data is plotted in the following relative frequency histogram: 0.2 0.15 0.1 0.05 10 15 20 25 30 35 a) Whats the mode of the data? b) The q-q plot is shown in the following chart. Is the data normally distributed? Why or why not? 2.5 1.5 0.5 0 0.5 -1 1.5 -2 2.5 5 10 15 20 30 35 40

Answer #1

Answer 2

(a) We know that the mode is the value which occurs most in the data values or value which has highest frequency. Mode is value which also has highest relative frequency. In the given relative frequency vs downtime chart, highest relative frequency is for downtime with 25 minutes

So, mode will be 25

(b) We know that the normal distribution for a q-q plot is shown by diagonally straight line. In the given q-q plot, we can see a straight diagonal line which is plotted from -2.2 to 2.2 on the vertical axis. This shows that the data is distributed normally on the given q-q plot.

Can this be considered a normal distribution, or does the data point between 0 and 2 affect it? I am trying to do a t test and the p-value is <0.0001, alpha=0.05, but I assume that I can't do a t-test on it because it is not normally distributed (symmetrical, unimodal, no outliers, mean in the middle).
