Autism is one very important neurodevelopment disorder includes severe abnormalities like difficulty in making social interaction, less verbal and non-verbal communication accompanied by restricted and repetitive behaviors and interests and also have some unique strength and differences. It is a biological disorder which is difficulty in speech, abnormalities of gestures and extreme introvert behavior. Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) children can face problems in communication and social interaction. They are highly sensitive to external sensory stimuli than other children. The onset of the symptoms starts at the age of early childhood before the age of 36 months (3 years). There is not one but many types of Autism that emerges on the basis of different combination of genetic and environmental factors. There are various cases of anxiety & they are unable to maintain their active participation in a high technology environment. Moreover children having the ASD have restricted behavioral functions and show some stereotype behavior. So caring for children with autism spectrum disorders is very sensible and challenging task for the family as well as nursing staffs

The ideal treatment for autism is done through Behavior therapies, intervention model targeting the specific cognitive abnormality and medicines.

Treatment of autism: There is no cure for autism, people in this immensely helped by therapy.

A. Bio- medical therapy: Special diets and supplements are used.

B. Speech therapy: Helps people with the autism with their speeches.

C. Applied behavior analysis: It teaches particular skills to the patients and this method is widely using for autism patients.

Nurse and parents effective role in teaching plans:

It is important to know the child should treated equally as another human and it is a patient right. A thorough check in the environment condition and surroundings and a physical examination with the help child parents to figure out the trigger for any agitations. If the child was agitated then give proper instructions and advice for creating good trust. Autism child having difficulty in understanding and following instructions/commands and it makes child more irritated and violent. Also being sensitive to sound, it may be very for child to concentrate the instructions.

Both the nurse and parents can build a comfort rapport with the child

Give time and space to child to trust him

Encourage the child to express her feeling

Child can take the help of a psychotherapist, counselor or a social worker

Read the gestures and Non-verbal communication

Do a daily check on the chart to ensure the care has been followed

Encourage the child to speak about her day. Check her chart to ensure her care is given and vitals are marked.

Check her appearance, grooming, and physical examination for any redness or marks
