Answer #1

1)

Molar mass of H2O2,
MM = 2*MM(H) + 2*MM(O)
= 2*1.008 + 2*16.0
= 34.016 g/mol

MM of H2O2 = 34.016
Lets calculate the mass of element

mass of O = 2*MM(O)
= 32 g

Mass % of O = (32*100)/34.016
= 94.07 %
Answer: 94.07 %

2)
Since solution is already saturated. Adding more solute will make the solution supersaturated and precipitation would start.

3)
If solution is unsaturated and we add more solute, the solute will dissolve.

4)
No.
Polar solute dissolves in polar solvent.
Non Polar solute dissolves in non polar solvent.

What can cause a low percent yield? In lab we did fischer esterification using benzoic acid and methanol to yield methyl benzoate. 3.05 grams of benzoic acid were used and 1.10 grams of methyl benzoate were produced. We also washed the product multiple times with water, 10% sodium bicarbonate solution, then saturated sodium chloride solution. Could the washing cause a low percent yield? If so, can you explain why?
