The informative topic that I have selected is “workplace ethics”. The speech below has five paragraphs with the first paragraph being the introduction, the next three paragraphs the body and the fifth paragraph is the conclusion.

Workplace ethics are moral principles and guidelines that exist in an organization and that employees follow and refer to when making different decisions and handling different situations in the workplace. Workplace ethics act as a framework for the employees about how they should properly behave, act and conduct themselves in the organization as well as outside it.

Workplace ethics becomes a basis of the culture of an organization. In fact workplace ethics ensures that the culture of a company is cohesive as well as supportive in nature in the long run. A properly defined workplace ethics policy helps an organization to balance the interest of its different stakeholders – employees, customers, suppliers, vendors, investors etc.

Ethics are the driving force behind the behavior of employees and hence the organization as a whole. Ethical standards may vary from one industry to another, one geography to another and even from one company to another but the core basis of ethics remains the same irrespective of the industry or geography.

Ethics are shaped both by management as well as government regulations. Organizations with strong corporate governance and internal control measures will be highly ethical and its actions will be devoid of unethical considerations. Usually the levels of internal control and corporate governance are weak in developing economies and poor economies and hence government regulations are strict and tight in such economies.

To conclude workplace ethics is a given must for any organization and on the basis of its ethical framework an organization is able to develop a tangible, systematic and optimal work culture. This optimal work culture will ensure the success of the organization in the long run and will ensure that the interests of different stakeholders are properly balanced and aligned.
