Evaluate the effect of peritoneal trauma on the woman’s reproductive and sexual health.
The peritoneum covers and protects the internal organs and
viscera of the abdomen.
In women the reproductive organs like uterus, fallopian tubes,
ovaries, and blood vessels supplying these organs which are lined
and protected by the peritoneum. Thus any injury to the peritoneum
will result in injury to these organs.
The peritoneal trauma can lead to rupturing of the hollow organs
like uterus and fallopian tubes. It can also cause tear to the
uterus or damage the ovaries.
peritoneal trauma can also cause rupture if gonadal blood vessels
resulting in excess blood loss and fluid accumulation in abdominal
cavity. Evisceration is also common with peritoneal injuries.
Some injuries to the reproductive organs could be surgically
corrected but some may cause total removal of the organ or
permanent loss in function. This can severely affect the
reproductive functions of the woman and may even cause
infertility
