Explain how policies and procedures are used to manage compliance and ethical practice in external service delivery.
A code of ethics is a set of core ethical principles that informs and guides ethical practice within a profession. It defines the values and responsibilities that are fundamental to a particular profession.A code of conduct is described by The Ethics & Compliance Initiative as follows: A code of conduct is intended to be a central guide and reference for users in support of day-to-day decision making. It is meant to clarify an organization’s mission, values and principles, linking them with standards of professional conduct. As a reference, it can be used to locate relevant documents, services and other resources related to ethics within the organization.
Procedures, on the other hand, clearly define a sequence of steps to be followed in a consistent manner, such as how the organization will respond to any policy violations. However, these policies and procedures are rendered useless if employers neglect to adhere to them or fail to effectively communicate them to employees. Utilizing both policies and procedures during decision-making ensures that employers are consistent in their decisions.
