When an aqueous solution of chromium(III) sulfate and sodium carbonate are combined a double displacement reaction takes place.

The possible double displacement products are chromium(III) carbonate and sodium sulfate.

From the solubility chart, the product chromium(III) carbonate is insoluble in water thus the reaction occurs.

The balanced molecular equation is as follows:

Cr2(SO4)3(aq) + 3Na2CO3(aq) \rightarrow Cr2(CO3)3(s) + 3Na2SO4(aq)

The complete ionic equation is as follows:

2Cr3+(aq) + 3SO42-(aq) + 6Na+(aq) + 3CO32-(aq) \rightarrow Cr2(CO3)3(s) + 6Na+(aq) + 3SO42-(aq)

Cancel the spectator ions to write the net ionic equation as follows:

2Cr3+(aq) + 3CO32-(aq) \rightarrow Cr2(CO3)3(s) --------- Net ionic equation
