Discrimination of transgender is seen even in the provision of health services causing delay or avoid necessary health care including care that is not transition related, sometimes leading to severe risk. An open communication and addressing of transgender has become important.

Inorder to improve quality of care and provider patient outcomes better addressing and good open communication has to be adopted. Welcome transgender community people by getting word out about your services and display positive cues in the centre. Transgender friendly posters, stickers etc can be used. Treat these communities as in the manner that they should understand that you want to be treated. Avoid negative facial reactions and speak to them in a manner you do with other patients. Use ‘she’ for the transgender women and ‘he’ for transgender men. Always ask politely if you have no knowledge of their gender identity. Inorder to facilitate a good provider patient relationships it is better to make no assumptions about the identity, beliefs, concerns and sexual orientation of transgender and gender non conform patients.

Ensure everyone in the working place should have good training in addressing transgender community in a appropriate manner. It is important to focus on care rather than asking so many questions on curiosity. Because it can quickly create a discriminatory environment.
