Benefits -

emotion-focused coping can be quite valuable in patients with stressful circumstances that are unchangeable , by shifting how they experience potential stressors in their lives they can reduce their negative impact. With emotional-focused coping , they won’t need to wait for their lives to change, or work changing the inevitable they can simply find ways to accept what they face right now, and not let it bother them. This can cut down on chronic stress, as it gives the body a chance to recover from what might otherwise be too-high levels of stress. Another advantage of emotional-focused coping is that it allows the patient to think more clearly and access solutions that may not be available if they are feeling overwhelmed. Because stressed people do not always make the most effective decisions, emotion-focused coping can be a strategy to get into a better frame of mind before working on problems. In this way, emotion-focused coping can help with both emotions and solutions.

Examples of suggestions that can be made -

journaling: journaling helps you make sense of your emotions, pinpoint patterns and gain relief. Research suggests that it is also very helpful in reducing stress, solve problems more effectively and even improve your health.

” Journals are like checkpoint between your emotions and the world “ writes clinical psychologist Beth Jacobs, ph.D, in her workbook

mindful mediation: in a number of research articles it has shown that mindful meditation helps in a number of problem like addiction, stress and productivity. Meditation can help you to separate yourself from your thoughts as you react to stress, so you can stand back ans choose a response rather than react out of panic or fear. Meditation also allows you to relax your body, which can reverse your stress response as well
