Some of the things which a nurse can do to de-escalate the situation

  • First reassure the patient that they are there to help and will not cause any harm
  • Develop a situation which the patient can accept and feel secured and hopeful
  • Be bare hand so that the patient fear or anger can not be triggered

The Patient is mentally ill and expressing a sense of disbelief and thought that he was imprisoned and will be attacked or injured.So patient has to be calmed down by reassuring and bringing the patient to understand and acceot the reality

The nonverbal techniques are

  • Facial expression should be pleasant ,not showing anger or rudeness
  • Maintain a proper posture which makes the patient dpfeel secured
  • Try to maintain an efficient eye contact

The non verbal techniques that may escalate te situations

  • Ordering the patient can aggravate the situation
  • A high pitched voice can trigger fear in patient
  • Interrupting when patient conversing this may escalate the situation rather than helping to de-escalate
