identify at least one other characteristics of the soils/sand that may have impacted the growth of the plants.
Answer - The following characteristics of soil that impact the growth of plants -
1) soil texture - The physical structure of the soil due to presence of clay , silt and sand particles in different proportion and form a specific type of soil.
a) Sandy soil - It consist of 80% sand particles .Due to high percentage of sand particles, soil pore size is too large. So poor water retention capacity. It affect the growth of plants.
b) clay soil -It consist of 60% clay particles so soil having greater water retention capacity to the Sandy soil.
c) Loamy soil - It consist of clay- 30%, silt - 40%, and sand - 30% . it is most favorable for the growth of various plants. Because good aeration, high water retention capacity and rich in organic matter and minerals .
2) Organic Matter of the soil - organic matter affect the growth of plant due to less organic organic matter it leads to slow growth of plant. Because organic matter is decomposition into simple compounds added into the soil and improve the fertility of soil. Plant absorb all the nutrient from the soil.
3) soil water - All plants absorb water from the soil.
Less water availability affect the growth of plants like stunted growth, poor development of leaves .
capillary water - Inside soil ,soil particles from narrow capillaries and hold the water. This type of water available to plants. It is absorb by plants and perform all vital activities.
