Cavity is any space or compartment or potential space in the body

There are two main cavities in human body

1.DORSAL BODY CAVITY

2.VENTRAL BODY CAVITY

Cranial cavity Dorsal cavity Thoracic cavity Spinal cavity Ventral cavity Abdominal cavity Pelvic cavity Abdominopelvic cavit

Dorsal body cavity

it has 2 cavities again

  • Cranial cavity which houses brain and pituitary gland.it is the space occupied by brain, enclosed by skull bones
  • Vertebral or spinal cavity which houses spinal cord .it is the space enclosed by the vertebral column or back bone.. It is continuous with cranial cavity

Ventral body cavity

it has again 2 cavities

  • Thoracic cavity which houses lungs and ribs.it is space superior to diaphragm
  • Abdominopelvic cavity which is further divided into abdominal and pelvic cavities ..
  • Abdominal cavity houses major digestive organs.it is the space occupied by ventral internal organs inferior to diaphragm and superior to pelvic cavity
  • Pelvic cavity houses urinary and reproductive organs.it is space occupied by ventral internal organs that are bordered by pelvic bone girdles...
