Answer #1

The two important chemical findings in Ms Hillman’s urine are:

1. Presence of nitrite in urine

2. Elevated leucocyte esterase in urine

Presence of nitrites in urine indicates the presence of bacteria in urine. Bacteria breaks down the nitrates present in urine to yield nitrites. The presence of nitrites in urine is marker of bacterial infection of urine.

Leucocyte esterase is an enzyme produced by leucocytes. When there is large number of WBC present in urine it increases the level of leucocyte esterase in urine. So elevated levels of leucocyte esterase in urine is marker of WBC in urine.

So we can say that the two important microscopic findings in Ms Hillman’s urine correlating to chemical analysis of urine are:

1. Presence of bacteria in urine

2. Presence of WBC in urine
