The crude extraction of benzoic acid is effective resulting in 93.5% yield, and its further recovery using the crude is greater than 80% in both cases, the melting point obtained for these fractions range within 4 oC difference from 119.6 to 123.6 oC. The melting point range could be improved by removing any further residual impurities.

The crude extraction of p-dichlorobenzene is higher than 100%, this could be because the compound is not completely dry or has some residual impurities from reactants. Further recovery using the crude resulted in very poor yields i.e. ~12%. This could be because the compound is not crystallized in the solvent used. The melting point range for these is within 3 oC difference from 52.4 to 55.8 of this range could be further narrowed by removing any further minor impurities.

Overall the p-dichlorobenzene recovery needs to be significantly improved.
