NHMRC STEPS TO RESPIRATORY HYGIENE AND COUGH ETIQUETTE:

1. Hand hygiene: thorough hand washing after having contact with respiratory secretions and contaminated materials with non antimicrobial soap and water, alcohol based hand rub or antiseptic handwash.
2. Turn away head away from others during coughing and sneezing covering mouth and nose.
3. Cover mouth and nose with tissue paper when coughing or sneezing.
4. Use the nearest waste receptacle to dispose the tissue after use.
5. People can carry a bag with them so used tissues can be disposed of straight away. Later the whole bag can be discarded in the waste receptacle
6. In case if you don't have tissue, cough or sneeze into your elbow rather than your hand.
