  1. What do you think a provider would recommend as pain management for that patient?
    • Would it be over-the-counter or require a prescription?
    • What would be the recommended adult dosage?
    • Would there be concerns regarding how long the medication could safely be used?
  2. Might there be options other than medications which might help with pain?

A patient comes in with severe wrist pain. The pain started shortly after the patient fell down the stairs. When asked to rate their pain on a scale of 1-10 the patient gave it a 6. After x-rays and a diagnosis from the doctor, the patient has a small fracture in the wrist. This kind of pain is considered acute and should go away once the wrist has healed.

Answer #1

A patient comes with a wrist pain and diagnosis of fracture in the wrist, has to be treted with analgesics. it will be better to start with injectable form of analgesics atleast for one or two days along with anf sos.

prescription has to be needed and there should have an sos oreder of the analgesic.

the medicine has to be used for 3 days and after that it can be continued with 2 to 3 days if the pain still persist. after that it may not be recomended and if still pain is there it has to be eveluated for further management.

The patient can also use other techniques of pain management such as listening to music, talking with loved ones, being busy with work, involve in nay activity he was most interested etc to divert his mind. Also relaxation technique like deeep breathing exscersise can also be used for the same.
