Pain is defined as a physical suffering/discomfort caused by illness or injury and is categorized as chronic or acute. Pain-tolerance varies from patient to patient, in fact health care providers may ask patients to describe their pain on a scale from 1 to 10 (with 10 being the worst possible pain). For your initial post: Investigate and explain the difference between acute and chronic pain Create a patient-scenario that involves pain management. Make sure your scenario addresses the following: Does your patient have acute or chronic pain? Where in the body is your patient experiencing pain? Is their pain due to illness or injury? What level on the pain-scale do they report Review the posts made by your classmates? Choose at least one patient-scenario and reply with the following: What do you think a provider would recommend as pain management for that patient? Would it be over-the-counter or require a prescription? What would be the recommended adult dosage? Would there be concerns regarding how long the medication could safely be used? Might there be options other than medications that might help with pain?

Acute pain is on sudden onset.It can be due to many reasons,like sudden fall, injury's or anything that happens suddenly.Chronic pain is something which has been there for a longer period like knee pain,lower back pain etc

Patient Scenario 1

The patient suffers chronic pain.Pain in legs which is due to illness.The patient scales the pain to 8 as she is experiencing severe pain.Her pain is that severe that she feels difficulty while walking and doing any kind of work standing.Doctor asked to reduce weight and has suggested long term medication.

Patient Scenario 2

Patient with severe tooth pain categorised to acute pain.He scales it to 10 as he started getting swelling in that area.Pateint diagnosed with decayed tooth is given analgesics and antibiotics.For his weight the suggested dosage was 650mg.The patient was prescribed with medication and as an initial treatment puss from the swelling was drained of as an initial pain management process.The medication was given for 7days.The only option suggested was medication and removal of tooth after one week.
