Axillary crutches are the walking aids used to help during walking for patient with one leg affected.

Axillary crutches has the following parts:-

• Crutch pads:- which are the soft cushion part that fits the axilla on the crutches.
• Hand grip:- horizontal rod like part that's used to hold the crutches in position and supports to walk and move the crutches.
• Crutch tip:- is the base on which the total crutches balanced. It touches earth while using crutches.
• There is an adjustable area to adjust the length of crutches.

When you are fitting the axillary crutches select the appropriate sized crutches as per patient need.

• Crutch pad distance from armpits: The crutch pads should be 1½" to 2" below the armpits, with the shoulders relaxed.
• Handgrip: Place it so your elbow is slightly bent – enough so you can fully extend your elbow when you take a step.
• Crutch length (top to bottom): The total crutch length should equal the distance from your armpit to about 6" in front of a shoe
