This paper focuses on the four nursing paradigms which are comprised of person, environment ,patient and nursing. Each metaparadigm plays a key role in the nursing process and is essential when providing patient care.

A metaparadigm functions as a framework to develop conceptual models .The nursing metaparadigm consist of four main concepts: person, health, environment, and nursing. It is essential for nurses to apply these four metaparadigms to the nursing process when caring for patients in order to address patient care as a whole. Out of the four metapardigms ,the main focus is given to patient . The four components :-

- Patient component means who is the recipient of care .

- Nursing component means the nurse and how she or he will use their knowledge and skills to provide patient care . Nurses provide preventive, promotive and restorative care to the sick and injured patients .

- Health component means a state of complete physical ,mental ,social and spiritual well being and not merely the absence of disease. It is the unity of mind ,soul and body and continuum of wellness till terminal illness.

- Environment component means the internal and external factors which affect the health . It is the place or community where care is provided

The four components are interrelated to each other and maintainence of all these are very crucial while providing care to the patient for the effective interventions and outcomes . All these components needs to be well balanced for a person to be fully functional . Hence these nursing paradigm helps to explain the relationship between a person , environment in which they live and their health.
