· What is an environmental survey and why is it important?
Principles of surgical asepsis:
-once the equipment and areas free from microorganisms,it must be remain same never contaminate that again.
-touching one non sterile item and touching another sterile item will make contamination..
- never sneeze,cough over a sterile field..
- keep the sterile field dry.
- handle liquids carefully near the sterile field.
-sterile supply should be clearly labelled with content, time and date.
-check expired date always before handing..
- avoid sweeping and dusting when sterile objects are open.
- put mask, apron, gloves before handing sterile equipment..
-wash hands before handing..
Droplet isolation:
Procedures that reduces the risk of droplet- borne infection during coughing, sneezing, talking or performing procedure like suctioning and bronchoscopy.
Contact isolation:
Standard precautions like decrease the infection by microorganisms through direct or indirect contact with the patient who is infected with staphylococcus aureus and clostridium difficile..
Airborne isolation:
Standard precautions that decrease the infection by avoiding infectious agents or dust particles..
Protective isolation:
Standard precautions used in the case of patients with contagious or communicable disease like cancer, HIV etc..
Sterile field:
It is a area considered by free of microorganisms or bacteria..
Isolation precautions:
Equipments used for protecting us from isolations are gloves, mask, gowns, alcohol- based hand rub, single- use towel..
Environmental survey:
Environmental survey performed on a site where there is hazardous substances..The site will be first assessed and planned by environmental engineer or supervisor..Then they will plan for any needs of remedial construction..it also includes monitoring wells and detecting, analyzing and monitoring pollution etc..
This survey useful to avoid spreading any unwanted or contaminated soils, water may cause infection..

Describe the difference between droplet and airborne precautions. Discuss the protective equipment which must be used when imaging patients on droplet or airborne precautions. Give one example of a disease or condition which would place a patient on airborne precautions and one example for droplet precautions (3 points).
Define medical asepsis. Define surgical asepsis. List the important rules of sterile fields. When would you anticipate needing sterile gloves? Why do you wear clean gloves? For each of the following isolation types, describe what PPE you will use, why you use it, other instructions, and types of microbes that may require it: Contact, Droplet, Airborne, Standard. Describe the difference between stage 1, 2, 3, and 4 pressure ulcers in your own words. What steps do nurses take when removing...
Differentiate between Airborne, Droplet, and Contact Precautions isolation precautions. Explain the teaching needed to prevent transmission of disease. Identify the factors that place patients at risk for infection. Identify the priority nursing care for patients before, during, and after transfusion therapy.

67 Preventing Infection Match the practices with the correct principles for surgical asepsis. A. A sterile item can only touch another sterile item. B. Sterile items or a sterile field is always kept within your vision and above your waist. C. Airborne microbes can contaminate sterile items or a sterile field. D. Fluid flows down, in the direction of gravity E. The sterile field is kept dry, unless the area below it is sterile. F. The edges of a sterile...
10-4Thinking It Through Frank Gello is very excited about his new position as a surgical technologist at the local hospital, although he is somewhat intimidated by the person who is orienting him and is anxious to complete his training and work more independently. As they set up for the next surgery, his preceptor positions himself on the opposite side of the sterile field. As Frank opens the sterile instruments to place them on the sterile field, his preceptor talks him...
