Expenses are categorized as fixed or variable depending on their nature. Categorize each of the following expenses as fixed or variable. Fixed Variable expenses are expenses that Basic cable TV fee (no upgrades) Clothing purchases Paid medical bills Quarterly insurance change from period to period. The surplus (deficit) section of the cash-flow statement shows whether you added to your bank balance with a surplus or lowered your cash balance (or needed to borrow from savings) because of a deficit.
