Vectors have 3 components. The vector variables are: particle_position, obslocation, r, rhat. You have selected theta, it is not a vector, it is a scalar and has only one component.

(c.)

Particle position To=1.0 i +1.0j +0k

Observer location Fo= cos i + sin oj +0k

Using θ=1.1304 we get Fo= 0.4263 i + 0.9046 9 +0k

Separation Vector T=F-

T= 0.4263 i + 0.9046 j +0k - (1.0 i +1.01 +0k)

T= -0.5737 i - 0.0954 1 + 0 k

The length of the separation vector is

rmag = Vr+rf + r?

rmag = (-0.5737)2 + (-0,0954)2 + 02

rmag = 0.5816

(d.)

= rmag

f= -0.5737 i - 0.0954 +0 k 0.5816

r = -0.9864 i - 0.1640 1 + 0 k

The length of rhat is

If I = V(-0.9864)2 + (-0.1640)2 + 02

||= = 1.0
