In my opinion there are major three limitations which the microbiologist should be aware of when utilizing CTA carbohydrates for the differentiation of Neisseria and Moraxella species:

1. The inoculums should be in sufficient quantity as the lack of sufficient inoculums generate erroneous results

2. It is reported that few strains of the gonococci require some additional compounds for their growth, which are not provided by the CTA Media hence they will not grow and thus it will be problematic situation

3 Then the amounts of acid produced by Neisseria spp is n very small quantity hence its very tough to measure is for the identification and further differentiation.
