2. Describe the differences and similarities between the act of instruction and the act of coaching. The main difference between the act of instruction and the act of coaching lies within the purpose of the coaches and the target they are attempting to improve. For instance, a sports instructor merely lies down the basics of playing a sport, and is usually the introducing instructor for any player that wants to get into the sport. Their exercises usually consist of the fundamental basics of the sport. Coaching, however, assumes that the target players already have a solid fundamental of the game, and thus, coaching works on improving that fundamental baseline in relation to their competition's fundamental baseline to be able to elevate their game above their competition. For example, a sports instructor would be teaching new players how to shoot layups, or the proper shooting form when attempting a jump shot, and a coach would be teaching already seasoned players not only how to shoot layups, but how to shoot layups while being contested, or how to get into the position to get into a jumpshot in the first place, advanced techniques that new players should not be attempting until they got the basics of the game down first. However, the similarity comes in to the fact that sports instructors and coaches will always be teaching the fundamentals and basics of the game no matter what. Because while new players need to know the basic ground work of the game to begin competing, seasoned players that have played for years must always have refreshers to continue to maintain their fundamental roots and not lose them along the years of playing.
