Describe two obstacles that makes fixing atmospheric nitrogen difficult.
Nitrogen fixation = The conversion
of molecular nitrogen to usable forms such as nitrite, nitrate or
ammonia
Nitrogen fixation is a difficult process due to the following
reasons.
i. The usable forms of nitrogen contain a single nitrogen atom.
However, the molecular nitrogen contains two nitrogen atoms held
together by three covalent bonds. Nitrogen is one of the most
stable and inert molecules. It requires a great amount of energy to
convert it to the usable forms.
ii. Biological nitrogen fixation utilizes an enzyme complex known
as Nitrogenase complex. Nitrogenase complex is found only in
prokaryotes. So, only bacteria and archaea can fix atmospheric
nitrogen.
iii. Nitrogen is an oxygen-sensitive enzyme i.e. it is
no-functional in the presence of oxygen. Hence, strict anaerobic
conditions have to be provided for the nitrogenase to be
functional.
Describe two obstacles that makes fixing atmospheric nitrogen difficult.
The organisms that are prokaryotic and possess specialized structures called heterocysts to aid in fixing atmospheric nitrogen are Dinoflagellates cyanobacteria Algae Archaea Penicillium Question 31 The organisms that have silicious cell walls and can produce domoic toxins Diatoms Cyanobacteria Dinoflagellates Spirogyra Chlamydomonas

Firms usually faces obstacles to implementing price discrimination. Describe and explain the main obstacles faced by firms. How do these obstacles affect the strategies of price discrimination that firms can use?
Select the correct statement describing the nitrogen cycle. Bacteria obtain energy from nitrification. Nitrogen-fixing microbes provide energy for carbon fixation. Denitrifying bacteria reduce ammonia (NH3 +) to molecular nitrogen (N2).
True or Flase. Molybdenum is a cofactor for nitrogenase, which means every nitrogen-fixing microorganisms will not be able to fix nitrogen without Molybdenum in its diet.
Desiccation makes life on land difficult for plants because: a. CO2 can bind to H2O and O2, causing photorespiration b. nutrients dissolved in the water are difficult to assimilate c. water vapor levels within leaves are higher than atmospheric water vapor levels d. atmospheric CO2 levels are higher than CO2 levels within leaves
The creation of reactive nitrogen by symbiotic N2-fixing plants is limited by ___________: a. The deleterious effect of ammonium on plant cell productivity b. Equilibration of nitrogen between the ground and atmosphere c. The supply of plant-derived C required to fuel bacterial N2 fixation. d. Insufficient supply of N2 from the atmosphere e. All of the above
Help Save & Exit Nitrogen-fixing bacteria in the roots of soybeans help provide a source of nitrogen to the plants, and in exchange, the bacteria obtain food from the plants. Which type of interaction is this? Multiple Choice parasitism commensalism herbivory mutualism predation
The enzyme that converts atmospheric nitrogen to ammonia in the nodules of the rhizobium/plant symbiosis is The greatest source for fixing molecular nitrogen (N_2) to ammonium (NH_4^+) in terrestrial environments is Why is NH_4^+ toxic to all organisms if allowed to accumulate beyond -0.5 mM? The statement above is false - NH_4^+ is not toxic but is instead an important source of nitrogen. NH_4^+ reacts with NADPH (and NADH) to reduce the reducing power in a cell. At pH 7...
