Question 1A: Briefly discuss the difference between crude rates and age-standardized rates. Discuss one advantage of using age-standardized rates over crude rates. (4pts)
Question 1B: In 2019, the American Psychiatric Association proposed that the definition of autism spectrum be narrowed. Under their definition, a person needs to exhibit three deficits in social interaction and at least two repetitive behaviors. This proposal is a much stricter standard than previously used. Question 1a:
Crude rates are age distribution of the state population. example
number of people exposed to the incidence of rare diseases per
1,000 or 1,00,000 individuals in the population.
Age-standardized rates is an account of the different age structure
of the population is compared with other groups. Example:
Population 40% in 2011 there is high mortality than in 2000.
Age-standardized rates provide comparability of rates from
different populations. it means adjusted for the age distribution
difference, but crude rates provide only less comparison between
different populations, it makes the total burden of health outcomes
to the community. but the age of specific rates will measure
accurate age-specific rates among the age groups.
Question 1b:
I, Increased: In 2019 incidence report of ASD is higher than in the
general population. there is 10% of children with ASD with other
disorder, it increased 10times of incidence compared with the
general population.
ii, Decreased: autism spectrum disorder among children age 4 years
provides the prevalence of disorder that progresses decreasing the
age of identification of ASD. It is a decrease in the prevalence of
three sites that contributed data for surveillance in the past 3
years with available data sources.
