Alcoholism and dug abuse or substance abuse characterized as social problems are now considered as social diseases.They arise may be as a result of emotional breakdown,financial crisis,broken families which causes psychological problem.Drug abuse is defined as maladaptive pattern of using certain drug,alcohol,medications and toxins despite their adverse effect.Alcoholism and drug abuse alter the function of human brain and have impact on behaviour develop ailments like cancer,liver diseases,cardio vascular disease,HIV transmission etc.

  Components implicated for the treatment of social problems as diseases icludes methods such as assessment, detoxification, rehabilitation, counseling or therapy, continuing care, substance use monitoring, medications, case management, and mutual support programs. Social, family, and other problems can be addressed through the use of family, child care, mental health, medical, educational, HIV/AIDs, legal, financial, housing, and transportation services in addiction treatment agencies or within the community.

Medical care system implicated initiatives to reduce the incidence of social problems.One such initiative is SAFER, a new initiative and technical package outlining five high-impact strategies that can help governments reduce the harmful use of alcohol and related health, social and economic consequences.50% of the 152 responding countries have methadone available for maintenance treatment of opioid dependence, and 45% of the 147 responding countries have methadone available for detoxification treatment of opioid dependence.15% of the 152 responding countries report that at least a third of the primary health care facilities routinely implement screening and brief interventions for harmful alcohol use and 10% of the 154 responding countries for drug use
