Problem 3: In order to help the worlds bee populations to recover, scientists have bred bees that are resistant to the Varroa destructor mite. The only problem is that these bees tend to be aggressive. So, the mite resistant bees are allowed to breed with aggressive (but not so resistant) cousing. Suppose that at the NoffCo B-bar r population is comprised of 58% aggressive bees and 60% mite resistant bees. It is also known that 10% of the mite resistant bees are not aggressive. Note: the first part of this is true (everything before the fictitious NoffCo and its doings). a) (5) Construct a Venn diagram that illustrates this information. the bee b) (2) What proportion of the bees are non-aggressive, mite-resistant bees? c) (2) What proportion of the aggressive bees is not mite resistant? d) (2) If there are 240,000 bees, how many of the bees are mite resistant?
