Ans) Order: Magnesium sulphate 4 gram bolus to Infuse over 30 minutes.

Magnesium sulphate 2 every 1 hrly.

Available: 40 grams in 500 ml NS

Formula: ml/hr = volume of dose ÷ time in hr

= 500

40 gms= 500ml

4 gms= x

x = 4 × 500/40 = 50 ml

Appling to formula: 30 mins = 0.5 hr

ml/hr = 50/0.5= 100 ml/hr for bolus.

For 2 grams every hour

40 gms = 500 ml

2 gms = y

y= 2 × 500/ 40 = 25 ml

Applying to the formula:

ml/hr = 25/1 = 25 ml/hr.
