I hate how these text book questions are laid out. Although we typically talk of state courts(as opposed to federal courts) would it be better to talk about local courts? To what extent are there major variations within your state? what the heck is this even asking of me??

Ans. Yes , it would surely be better to talk about local courts , these courts deal with almost 85% of total judicial bodies in the US. Average citizens normally comes to contact with these courts and are obligated to handle felony criminal cases. Take a state as State A and in that state , family law, mental health cases, probates, cases of minors, domestic relations, and felony criminal cases are considered. Such courts mainly handle civil cases below $15000 , above this would go to next higher level. Governor selects the court judges as per the suggestion of citizen commission.
