The word hyperplasia itself describes the following

  • Hyper:increase
  • Plasia:multiplication of cell,growth of cells.

So the term refers to abnormal multiplication of cells in the body. The most common example for this is cancer ,where there is abnormal multiplication of cells.

Hyperthyroidism word describes the following

  • Hyper:increase
  • Thyroidism:thyroid (referring to the secretion of hormone from it)
  • So the term hyperthyroidism refers to increased thyroid hormone (T3 or T4)secretion

They both relate to each other in case of Thyroid Hyperplasia (Goiter) This is incr3se or enlargement of the gland as a resu6of hyperplasia

Similarly the hyperthyroidism comes by hyperplasia resulting in increased stimulation of the epithelial cells in the thyroid and increasing the thyroid hormone levels.
