Scenario Information - One Dental Please read the following scenario information for a simulated business, One Dental. You will use this scenario information to answer all questions for this assessment. You work at a large private dental clinic, One Dental. You work with a large team of dental nurses and dentists, many of whom come from different cultural backgrounds to yourself. Your manager at the clinic is the Dental Nurse Manager. However, she is leaving soon to go on maternity leave. It's performance review time, and you are hoping to be considered for your manager's role. However, to be considered, your manager has asked you to prepare answers on how you would effectively lead and manage workplace relationships in her absence. Prepare answers to the following questions to submit to your manager for consideration

: 1.1) Achieving planned outcomes is important, however, sometimes work relationships hinder your ability to do so. Give three examples of how work relationships and the cultural and social environment at One Dental could support or hinder achieving planned outcomes.

1.2) Having a positive relationship with your team is of paramount importance. Explain three techniques for how you might develop positive work relationships and building trust and confidence with the team. (Examples may include interpersonal styles, communications, consultation, cultural and social sensitivity, and networking)

1.3) As a Dental Nurse Manager, will you be accountable to many different stakeholders. Describe in 50 - 100 words for each what methods and techniques you might use for communicating information and ideas to the following three of stakeholders. Provide a reason why each method or technique you choose is appropriate for that stakeholder

1.4) Legislation and organisational policies greatly affect how you should manage workplace relationships. In approximately 250 words, and identifying two examples, describe what the impact of legislation and organisational policies on workplace relationships in One Dental may be.

1.5) As a Dental Nurse Manager, essentially you'll be a manager of problems! Outline the steps in a best practice problem-solving method in the box below.

1.6) One of the problems you'll encounter is workplace conflict. It's inevitable in the environment we work in. Explain three methods you might use to resolve workplace conflict. 1.7) Unfortunately, not all of the dental nurses at One Dental are great performers and as a manager, you'll have to manage that. Explain what three methods of managing poor work performance you might use for the poor performing staff.

1.8) Even if everything seems to be going well, there is always room for improvement with workplace relationships. Explain in 300 - 400 words how you might monitor, analyse and introduce two ways to improve work relationships.

1.1). The following is the examples for hindering the planned work under the cultural and social factors,

As a manager you should consider the employees cultural background and give priorities to the individual cultural needs and plan your work according to the employee circumstances so that you can get the desired outcome from them if you planned according to them.

Example1: Suppose if one of the employee is from the same cultural background of the manager he took it as a advantage and do his work literally.He will develop a internal feeling that you as a manager will always help him and give less work.So there the outcome gets hindered.

Example 2: If the manager is very friendly with the employees never shout on them for mistakes and easy going.Employees also take this as a factor to give poor outcome of work.

Example 3: In contrast to the above example if the manager is very strict and like a autocratic leader.The employees always have a dissatisfaction and unwillingness in work.Hence this also a becomes a hinder for outcome.

1.2). Manager can develop a positive relationship by the following techniques:

Providing equal opportunity to all employees and being impartial.

Giving a positive appreciation for their good performance.

Listen to their needs and get suggestion in work.

Encouraging them to ask for any doubts at work and giving motivation to them.

These will develop a good image on a manager among the employees and thus the positive relationship develops.

1.3).Communication techniques are Observation,Listening and keeping silent.

You can observe the employee way of work and behavior in the work setting.By this you can analyze about the employee.
Here the stakeholder is government.They make changes in laws regards to your field or they enforce your organization to complete the task.So there you have to listen.

When you are visiting a client in end stage of life there you can show your concern as silence.

1.4)you are developing a patient oriented treatment plan which means the professional will spend maximum time with the patient.But legally documentation is very essential part now hence you need to spend much time on this paper work rather than spending much time with the client.

For any procedure you cannot follow your own steps even though it is correct and safe.Because you have follow the organizational protocol for doing procedures.There you lose your chance of showing innovative ideas.

1.5).Identifying the problems , Find the causes of problem , Analyze the effect of the problem,seek the ways to resolve it,make plans to solve it,Implement the plans , analyze and evaluate the outcomes and if not resolved start with the cycle of plans again.

1.6).1.Listening to the both parties separately which helps to get clear understanding about the conflict or the problem and helps to find steps to resolve it. listening separately also avoids further development of conflict.

2.Providing clear information about the job roles and responsibilities to each individual helps them to know about their work and they focus on it there work gets completed.Clear understanding and proper work accomplishment avoids unnecessary conflicts.

3.After interrogation with the employees give them the information about their mistakes that became the reason for conflict development.Teach them how to manage the situation without developing a conflict.

1.7).1.Guidance : Give guidance in their work.

2.Supervision: inspect their work so that you can find the mistakes and hence avoid the poor outcome also which helps them to rectify the mistakes.

3.Observation: Observe the employees without their knowledge hence can find about their performance.

1.8).Achieving the outcome is always the goal.So you develop the plans ,Be friendly rather than being a autocratic leader,Treat all equally,Get suggestions and feedback from the team,For employees mistakes in work report their mistake to them and help them by giving solutions to avoid it.These all develop good team building and it will be a good work place environment and develop good working relationships.
