  • This is a process in which the attachment or detachment of phosphate group to the cell protein occur.
  • It causes conformational changes to the enzyme and make them activated or deactivated.

Following are the names of the enzymes involved in reversible phosphorylation:

  • Phosphatidylinositol kinases
  • Sphingosine kinases
  • Carbohydrate kinases [Hexokinase]
  • Riboflavin kinase
  • Thymidine kinase, etc

General reaction catalysed by the enzymes are :

  • Conversion of Phosphatidylinositol to Phosphatidylinositol-3,4-bisphosphate.
  • Conversion of Sphingosine to Sphingosine-1-Phosphate.
  • Conversion of Riboflavin to Flavin mononucleotide.
  • Conversion of Thymidine to Thymidine triphosphate.
  • Conversion of ADP to ATP, etc.
