Question

In a popular game show, contestants give a large wheel a spin and try to win money and prizes. The wheel is given an initial rotational velocity and this movement slows down over time and the wheel eventually stops. One contestant gives the wheel an initial angular velocity of 1 rev/2 s. Because of friction, the wheel eventually comes to rest ( 3. 0 rad/s) in 6 s. Because the wheels angular velocity is changing, there is an angular acceleration. Calculate, α, the angular acceleration in rad/s? (Note: you must first change 1 rev/2s into rad/s). a. b. Why is the angular acceleration you found in part (a) a negative value? What does the negative sign physically mean for the wheel? c. How many radians (A6) did the wheel sweep out as it was slowing down to a stop? d. Convert this 40 you found in the previous answer from radians to rotations. The wheel stops rotating in 6 s. So, at t = 3 s, it is still rotating. Calculate the ω in rad/s at this time. e. f. Sketch a graph of the angular speed with time (Plot time horizontally) 0

A machinist turns the power on to a grinding wheel, which is at rest at time t = 0.00 s. The wheel accelerates uniformly for 10 s and reaches the operating angular velocity of 86 rad/s. The wheel is run at that angular velocity for 32 s and then power is shut off. The wheel decelerates uniformly at 2.3 rad/s2 until the wheel stops. In this situation, the time interval of angular deceleration (slowing down) is closest to: 37 s...
