2. * Antacids are drugs used to reduce stomach acidity in patient with

   heartburn or other digestive problems in the stomach.

   * Antacids composed of alkaline ions which neutralize excessive acid (HCL)

   present in the stomach.

* Long term term use of antacids result in reduced acid level in the stomach

   which leads to increased risk of food borne infections because acids in the

   stomach act as a protective barrier against various food related infections.

* Long term use of antacids leads to decreased absorption of calcium during

    digestion which leads to osteoporosis and fractures.
