Heterogeneity corrections account for the presence of irradiated media other than water.Fat,bone,muscle and air attenuate and scatter the beam differently than does water.Presence of these inhomegenities will produce changes in the dose distribution.Respiratory irregularity is related to the occurence of motion artifacts,which can lead to not only crucial delineation error but also inaccurate dosimetric evaluation in treatment planning. For example deep breathing which is one of the most common irregular respiratory patterns ,involves a risk of removing the tumor from the radiation field during dose delivery;therefore patients should be encouraged to repeat reproducible and regular respiration during CT data acquisition and dose delivery.
