The Payroll Manager, Melissa Ranson, has requested that you prepare a memo explaining what a Record of Employment is, what it is used for, when it is issued and the importance of completing it on time and accurately. The memo will be used in the Payroll Department meeting next week to reinforce the importance of the Record of Employment with the payroll administrators.
A record of employment is a database form of an employee. This form is most useful to employees having insurable earnings, facing interruptions in their earnings. The interruption in earnings can be due to termination, accidents, lay offs etc. The form can be maintained manually/electronically.
The Record of employment is used for determining the insurable hours and earnings of the employee at the time of job interruption. This is the eligibility document that determines the amount of benefit and the period of benefit to be provided to the employee in case of interruption in earnings. And therefore the same has to be complete and accurate.
The same is to be issued in case there is seven consecutive days break from the job due to admissible reasons. The record of employment has to be issued everytime the employee faces an interruption to earnings or when there is a request from Service Canada or during certain special situations.
Due to high importance of the Record of Employment, the same must be accurate and submitted on time to avail the associated benefits. This is only useful for employees having insurable earnings.
