Alternative hypothesis represents the prior belief with the data. True or False? Why?
A hypothesis is some statement about a population parameter or about a population distribution. If the population is large, there is no way of analysing the population or testing the hypothesis directly. So, the hypothesis is tested on the basis of the outcome of a random sample.
While testing the hypothesis ,only one of the hypothesis is always true. One pair is called null hypothesis and the other alternative hypothesis.
Null hypothesis is called by that name because many times accepting null would lead to taking null or no action.
Alternative hypothesis is the contradictory of null hypothesis statement.
The null hypothesis is represented as H0 and alternative as H1.
For Eg H0:20
H1:>20
Here only one can be true after testing of the hypothesis. If mean is lesser than or equal to 20, then null hypothesis is true and if Mean is greater than 20, alternative hypothesis is true.
so the statement alternative hypothesis represents prior belief with the data is false because unless tested statistically we cant say if alternative hypothesis is true.
Alternative hypothesis represents the prior belief with the data. True or False? Why?
6. True or False? The null hypothesis indicates that there is no difference while the alternative hypothesis indicates that there is a difference between the means of two groups.
1 The statement of the alternative hypothesis - not the null hypothesis - always contains the equality. A) True B) False 2. An alternative hypothesis is a claim that holds if the null hypothesis is false. A) True B) False 3. The Hypothesis Test: HniH s 3 vs. Ha: > 3 represents a left-tailed test. A) True B) False 4. A professor refutes the claim that the average student spends three hours studying for the midterm exam. Which hypothesis is...

Q. The p-value represents the probability: 1. that we observe data as extreme as the one we saw if the null hypothesis is true. 2. that we observe data as extreme as the one we saw if the alternative hypothesis is true. 3. that we observe data as extreme as the one we saw if the alternative hypothesis is false. 4. that the null hypothesis is true given that we observed data as extreme as the one we saw. 5....
Type I error is: A. Deciding the null hypothesis is true when it is false B. Deciding the alternative hypothesis is true when it is true C. Deciding the null hypothesis is false when it is true D. Deciding the alternative hypothesis is true when it is false E. All of the above F. None of the above Type Il error is: A. Deciding the alternative hypothesis is true when it is true B. Please help with statistics, true or false? Suppose the alternative hypothesis was two sided and we wanted the Type I error to remain as 0.025. In order to compute the power we would have to adjust the critical threshold of the test for rejecting the hypothesis to 17.1 and 22.9.
3. A P-value is always computed assuming that the: A) alternative hypothesis is true. B) alternative hypothesis may be true. C) null hypothesis may be true. D null hypothesis is true. 3. A P-value is always computed assuming that the: A) alternative hypothesis is true. B) alternative hypothesis may be true. C) null hypothesis may be true. D null hypothesis is true.
In the space provided write either “true” or “false.” If the statement is false then explain why. 1. A point estimate, also called a statistic, is a single value that describes the population of interest, with the sample mean being the most common. 2. The margin of error is the width of the confidence interval between the lower limit and the upper limit. 3. The alternative hypothesis represents the status quo and involves stating the belief that the population parameter...

The first step in testing a hypothesis is to establish a true null hypothesis and a false alternative hypothesis. True False 6. The power curve provides the probability of Correctly accepting the null hypothesis Incorrectly accepting the null hypothesis Correctly rejecting the alternative hypothesis Correctly rejecting the null hypothesis 7. Determine whether the claim stated below represents the null hypothesis or the alternative hypothesis. If a hypothesis test is performed, how should you interpret a decision that (a) rejects the null hypothesis or (b) fails to reject the null hypothesis? A researcher claims that the standard deviation of the life of a certain type of lawn mower is at most 3.8 years. Does the claim represent the null hypothesis or the alternative hypothesis? Since the claim does not contain a...
